Clean the Air with Plants!

Did you know that some houseplants can remove indoor pollutants?? And here you thought plants just collected dust and put a little oxygen into the air. Not so my friends!

Some houseplants can even go so far as to remove things like Formaldehyde, Benzene, Ammonia, Trichloroethylene and other chemicals left behind from synthetic building materials, cleaning products, paints and varnishes.

"In fact, studies by NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America have resulted in a list of the most effective house hold plants for treating indoor air pollution." (Planet Green)

These include:

Heartleaf philodendron- Philodendron scandens `oxycardium'
Elephant ear philodendron - Philodendron domesticum
Cornstalk dracaena -Dracaena fragrans `Massangeana'
English ivy - Hedera helix
Spider plant - Chlorophytum comosum
Janet Craig dracaena - Dracaena deremensis
`Warneckii' dracaena - Dracaena deremensis
Weeping fig - Ficus benjamina
Golden pothos - Epipiremnum aureum
Peace lily - Spathiphyllum `Mauna Loa'
Selloum - Philodendron selloum
Chinese evergreen - Aglaonema modestum
Bamboo palm - Chamaedorea sefritzii
Snake Plant - Sansevieria trifasciata
Red-edged dracaena - Dracaena marginata

I got that picture off Google but it looks like there is even a book on it! I personally want more plants in my house just because they look cool and I like plants. Thankfully the majority of plants on this list are easy to care for and don't require a lot of special light or care. I am not a green thumb as you all know, so these work for me.

So if you are still looking for a cool gift to give for Christmas, give someone some Air!! :) Well at least something that will clean the air anyway!
