200th Post

I have reached the 200th Mark!
Wow 200 posts about being green or at least trying ot be as green as possible! Thats impressive! For those of you (all 2 of you) who followed me from the beginning--I'd like to thank YOU for keeping me going. And for those of you who read by blog but don't comment--please do--I need the ego boost! :)


So I thought in the Spirit of Christmas I would write about being Content. The bible talks a lot about being content so I'm thinking God wanted us to be REALLY content with HIM and not all the THINGS (whether material or not) that we THINK would make us content. here are just a few examples from the Word about being content...

• Ecclesiastes 4:8 "8 This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing."
• Philippians 4:12 "12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. "
• 1 Timothy 6:8 "8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that."
• Hebrews 13:5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

Well Said God! (naturally) I think that as Christians we see having lots of things including wealth as being blessed by God. As though that stuff comes from Him while we forget the larger things that really make us blessed. things like being able to get up every morning and walk, our health, our kids, having clean running water, living in a free country, being able to Worship our God whenever we want to, food for our bellies and obviously the list can go on and on.

We've probably all seen the quote, "being content is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of how much you already have" and it makes a great point. Seeking out all these things and trying to keep up with Jonses' does nothing but make us ill and create strife in our lives! Being content with what we have is even mentioned in the Big 10--and I mean the BIG 10--THE Ten Commandments!

Its one of those commandments we kinda forget about because well its #10 on the list. “You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.” Now remember that Covet means to long for, to wish for, to desire for and to want something without regard for others. (kinda like killing some guy to get into a Wal*Mart the day after Thanksgiving)

I truly believe that Christians are not being taught some of this info and instead we treat God like a Sugar Daddy in hopes for more status and for us that status comes in teh form of things. Which leads me to another commandment: having idols. Think about it. How is your living room layed out? Does the furniture face each other anymore? Or does it face the shiny idol aka: the TV? Just curious....you see my point. Instead of conversation with our families we tend to revolve even our furniture layouts around the TV.
